Sam Stephens, 74, of Sherman, Texas, passed from this life on Saturday, August 3rd, 2024 with loved ones by his side.

Sam was born in Sherman on October 13th, 1949, the son of Billy Mac Stephens and Bettye Ruth (Purdom) Stephens.  He graduated from Sherman High School before serving the United States Army as a combat soldier in Vietnam.

Sam enjoyed honky-tonks, hot rods and good barbecue. He was the best cook most of us know.  He loved to dance, listen to the band, tell stories, and share laughs. He was sure to have a great time wherever he went (or he was leaving!).  He liked his beer "cold with another one on the way".  We really all should be him -- just once.

He is survived by his daughter, Kobi King and her husband, Cody; Sister, Susan Hood and her husband, Glen; Nephews, Todd Hood and his wife Jennifer and Chad Hood and his wife Jade; Grandchildren, Annabelle and Maxwell King.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his best friend Buzz Matthews, who had the honor of meeting him at the pearly gates, likely with a cold one waiting.

Graveside services will be held at the pavilion in West Hill Cemetery on Friday, August 9th, 2024, with military honors.  Services will be officiated by lifelong friend Harold Finney.  We are asking all friends and family to gather at Calhouns 2.0 in Denison at 12:00 on Friday afternoon for music, drinks and lunch.
