Obituary

Sarah Jane Peeler Hall, age 82 passed away peacefully at her residence on Sunday, April 16, 2023, with her daughter at her side.

Sarah was born on February 15, 1941, in Cypress, Illinois to John A. Peeler and Lulla Johnson Peeler.  She was the youngest child born into a Christian farming family and attended public schools in West Eden, Illinois, Cypress, Illinois and Jamestown, Illinois.

Sarah married USAF Sgt. William Ardell Hall on April 14, 1962, in Sparta, Illinois and together they raised his two daughters, Debra and Denise. On November 1, 1962, she boarded an international flight in St. Louis, Illinois, with her two young daughters in tow, bound for Chaumont, France and thus began her life's journey as a military wife.  From Chaumont, France she moved to Laon, France; Perrin Air Force Base, Denison, Texas; Carswell AFB, Fort Worth, Texas; and Plattsburgh AFB, Plattsburgh, NY.  While in France, she and Bill visited several European countries, including Germany and Belgium.  When her husband retired, the family returned to Sherman, Texas.

Sarah was an excellent homemaker and kept an immaculate home.  Before Bill was to depart for active duty in Korat, Thailand for a year, during the Vietnam War, Sarah obtained her driver's license. It was also during that year that she began paying the monthly household bills and maintaining the yard at their Sherman residence.  She discovered she enjoyed planting various flowers and working in her yard and continued to do so for many years.

She started working at a young age helping an older sister with her small children and household.  From there she went on to work at the Sparta Community Hospital in the maternity ward and later the World Color Press in Sparta, Illinois.   She worked part-time for Hallmark Cards at the Perrin Air Force Base Exchange, when her husband was stationed in Korat, Thailand.  She was a cashier at the Carswell Air Force Base Exchange and after returning to Sherman, Texas, she had the opportunity to work for the USPS where she worked as a rural route carrier for many years, retiring in 1997.

During their retirement years, Bill and Sarah were a team and enjoyed going to estate sales, bargain hunting and traveling with their fifth-wheel camper.

Sarah was an active member of the Eastern Star in Whitewright, Texas and attended Hebron Baptist Church in Bells, Texas until her health declined.

She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, her brother James Carter, her sisters, Dolly Dunn and Mary Bowmann, her daughter, Denise Lynne Hall Turner and grandson, Raymond Dean Hall.

Sarah is survived by her daughter, Debra Hall Smith; son-in-law, Daniel W. Smith; her brothers, John Peeler of Carson Hill, Alabama; Jerry Peeler of Jasper, Arkansas and Edward Peeler of Carbondale, Illinois.  Also surviving are her grandchildren:  William Ardell Aragon and his wife, Mayla Aragon; Amber Nicole Turner and her fiance, Richard Greenhaw; Joshua Turner and his wife, Lea Turner.  Great-grandchildren include Angel Denise Aragon, Ayden Dean Aragon, Isabella Turner, Caleb Dean Turner, Christopher Turner and Matthew Turner.  She is additionally survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

Her daughter would like to thank Dr. Muqdad Zuriqat and Dr. Diego Restrepo for the excellent care they provided over the years, along with nurses and aides at Sher-Den Home Health, TMC Home Health, and Guardian Hospice.

Arrangements are under the direction of Waldo Funeral Home.  Graveside services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 20, 2023, at West Hill Cemetery. Officiating will be Rev. Brian Taylor of Forest Avenue Baptist Church.
