Obituary

Sarah Ruth Hastings, McKinney resident, 100 years old, went to look into the eyes of Jesus on Easter Day, March 31, 2024, which also happened to be her loving, late husband Barney's birthday.

She was born on July 25, 1923, in Huntsville, AL to Herman Stogner and Mary Ruth (Hill) Stogner.  She married the love of her life Barney W. Hastings March 19, 1942, and moved to San Diego, CA to start their life and family together.  They spent most of their life in southern California and several years in Texas and Oregon before returning to Texas in 2017.

Her main goal and purpose in life was to be a good wife and mother, she excelled at both.  She was a world class homemaker.  She was a born again Christian and a member of West Sherman Baptist Church.

She is survived by her son Mike Hastings and wife Wanda of Sherman, daughter Carol Stebbings and partner Dan Lunenburg of McKinney, grandchildren Angela Copeland of McKinney, Tammy Taylor, Tracy Taylor of Sherman, three great grandchildren and four great great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Barney of 48 years, daughter in law Judy Hastings, her special granddaughter Laurie and two brothers, Wilson and Russell Stogner.

A Memorial service will be held at West Sherman Baptist Church with visitation beginning at 10 AM and service at 11 AM on Saturday, April 13, 2024.  Brother Danny Wood of the church will officiate.

Memorials can be made in Sarah's name to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation or WSBC Building Fund.
