Dan Stanley Wessinger

Sherman- Funeral services for Coach Stan Wessinger will be held at 10:00 AM Friday, August 25 at Waldo Funeral Home.  Rev. Danny Wood will officiate.  Coach Wessinger, 90, passed away Tuesday, August 22 at the Brookdale Willows Assisted Living.

Stan was born March 19, 1933, in Muskogee, Oklahoma to the late Bryant and Nema (Williams) Wessinger.  He graduated from Durant schools and Southeastern Oklahoma State University, where he excelled in football.  Stan served in the US Navy from 1952-56 and married Barbara McLaughlin on December 14, 1953.

Stan began his career as a football coach in 1960 in Bonham and moved to Sherman in 1971.  In later years he retired from coaching but continued to teach Texas History at Piner Middle School for many years.  Coach Wessinger influenced many students and players in his time as a coach and teacher.  In retirement he enjoyed traveling.

Coach Wessinger is survived by his son Randy and wife Debby of Cabot, Arkansas, and his dear friend, Tommy Sue Spalding of Sherman.  He was preceded in death by his wife Barbara; son, Ray Charles Wessinger; brother, Jimmy Wessinger; and niece, Heather McLaughlin.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Heart to Heart Hospice of Sherman.
