IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Sue
Rogers
October 24, 1927 – March 10, 2024
Virginia Sue Rogers, 96, of Sherman, Texas, was ushered into heaven on Sunday morning, March 10, 2024, to a glorious reunion with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and her beloved husband, family, and friends who had gone on before her.
Visitation for family and friends will be on Friday, March 22, at 1 p.m. at Waldo Funeral Home in Sherman. The service is at 2 p.m. with Hospice Plus Chaplain Rodney Sprayberry officiating. Pallbearers will be Chris Puckett, Ben Puckett, Cory Cuevas, Ethan Cuevas, Tristan Cuevas, and Aaron Farber. Burial will follow at Cedarlawn Memorial Park in Sherman.
Sue was born October 24, 1927, in Bonham, Texas. She was the only child of Charlie T. Sturgeon and Bertha Currin Sturgeon.
In Sue's own words: She graduated from Bonham High School and enjoyed Glee Club, choir, and speech classes. She never understood algebra because her teachers left to fight in World War II. Also, many of her classmates had to leave before their graduation.
Sue went to work on Monday following her graduation. Her first job was cashiering at Texas, Power, and Light Company in Bonham. The job didn't pay very much but she was very happy to get it. She walked about four miles a day to work and back. She wanted to go to Sherman and attend a nursing school, but she was needed at home to help with the family income.
She met her husband, Arol, on a blind date when she was 19 years old. They were married six weeks later and celebrated more than 70 years of marriage before his death in 2017.
Sue began her real estate career in 1964 and worked for many years with Newman Realty and Management Company, which was the first Century 21 Real Estate Company in Sherman. After retiring from real estate, she enjoyed volunteering, traveling the world, and playing with her grandchildren and great grands.
All who knew her will most remember her caregiving, leadership, and love for her family and friends. She especially loved children and was involved with Cub Scouts, Bluebirds, Sunday School, Vacation Bible School, and other children's activities in the church.
She is survived by her children, son Chuck Rogers and his wife Donna of Denison, and daughters Renee' Grooms and her husband Tom of Denison, and Susan Murray and her husband Glen Maxwell of Conroe.
Her grandchildren are Melissa Puckett and her husband Chris of Longview; Leslie Cuevas and her husband Cory of Prosper; Leanne Rogers and her husband Aaron Farber of Tucson, Arizona; Jennifer Story and her husband Connor of Nampa, Idaho; and Jacqueline Grooms of Plano.
Sue's precious great grandchildren are Sarah and Ben Puckett; Ethan, Tristan, and Tatum Cuevas; Jude Rogers-Farber; and Charli Rose and Baby Girl Story (on the way).
She was preceded in death by her parents, Charlie and Bertha Sturgeon, and her beloved husband, Arol Rogers.
The family would like to express its sincerest gratitude to the staff of Celebration Senior Living and Hospice Plus for the recent loving care that Sue received as well as over the past four and one-half years.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Sue Rogers are requested to be made to Grand Central Station; 619 East Houston Street; Sherman, Texas 75092.
