Obituary

Theo R. Bernard, lovingly known as T.R., passed away on January 27, 2025, at the age of 95. He was born on November 9, 1929, in Windom, Texas, to Theo R. Bernard Sr. and Serena Inez Bernard.

T.R. grew up in Fannin County, where he met the love of his life, Mary Louise Miller, at the age of 17. They were married on June 21, 1947, in Whitesboro and enjoyed 64 wonderful years together before Mary's passing in 2011.

A man of dedication, T.R. was a skilled worker and quick to learn. He was initiated into Travis Lodge No. 117 as an Entered Apprentice on June 7, 1976, passed to the degree of Fellowcraft on August 9, 1976, and raised to the degree of Master Mason on September 20, 1976. T.R. was a Master Carpenter by trade, known for crafting beautiful pieces for family and friends throughout his life. He was proud of his work and enjoyed a long career at Texas Instruments, retiring after more than 25 years of service.

In his retirement, T.R. found joy in a variety of hobbies, including growing plants, building birdhouses, raising birds and koi fish, collecting old country music albums, and watching classic black-and-white Western films.

T.R. was preceded in death by his beloved wife Mary Louise; his parents; and his sister Katherine.

He is survived by his children: Mike Bernard and wife Nancy of Sherman; Phyllis Browder and husband Bill of Whitewright; Alan Bernard and wife Terri of Denison; and Kris Bernard and wife Linda of McKinney. He also leaves behind numerous grandchildren: Malina Aleman (Chico), Eric Bernard, Jeffrey Brawner, Crystal Baker (Desmond), Courtney Weddle (Bobby), Jennifer Allison (Troy), Matthew Bernard (Jymi), Justin Tyler, Gentry Babin, and Jared Bernard (Amanda).

He was affectionately called "Papaw" or "Papaw T.R." by 23 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson.

T.R. will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who knew him. His legacy of love, craftsmanship, and devotion to his family will live on in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing him.
