A Mass of Christian Burial for Tanios D. Khalaf will be held at 11:00 am Wednesday, August 20 at St. Mary's Catholic Church. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery with services under the direction of Waldo Funeral Home. Mr. Khalaf passed away on his birthday, Sunday, August 17 at the age of 96 at Wilson N. Jones Medical Center.
Tanios was born August 17, 1912 in Souk El Gharb, Lebanon to the late Darwich and Hoda (Harb) Khalaf. After service with the British and French armies in World War II, on November 13, 1949, Tanios married Ivonne Sioufy. He worked as a carpenter and contractor in Lebanon until retirement, moving to the United States in 1980. Mr. Khalaf enjoyed history and reading, especially the Bible. He was a longtime member of St. Mary's Catholic Church.
Mr. Khalaf is survived by his wife of 59 years, Ivonne of Sherman; two sons, Mike Khalaf and wife Sue and Elias Khalaf and wife Marina, all of Sherman; two daughters, Hoda Khalaf-Nehme of Plano and Norma Khalaf of Sherman; seven grandchildren, Ralph, Mark, Pamela, Elie, Christian, Carla, and Joseph; one great grandchild, Derrick; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A rosary will be recited at 6:30 pm Tuesday at Waldo Funeral Home. The family will receive friends at 7:00 pm following the rosary. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the St. Anne's Building Fund at 727 S. Travis, Sherman, Texas 75090. The register book can be signed online at waldofuneralhome.com.
