Obituary

Tillie Ann Grisham, aged 90, of Sherman, TX, departed this earthly life the same way she entered it, during a thunderstorm, on February 3, 2024.

Tillie was born May 25, 1933, and raised in Hagerman, TX until 1943 when the Denison dam was completed, leaving Hagerman uninhabitable under Lake Texoma.

One of her favorite memories was receiving an alligator in the mail from her Uncle Keevil. Unfortunately, upon returning home one day, Tillie and her siblings realized the little fellow had escaped. After discovering a trail of footprints down to the creek, it became clear they no longer had a pet alligator. Tillie's family members like to think any current alligators residing in Lake Texoma are descended from the gator that got away.

Her family then resided in Pottsboro before moving to Denison so her older brother, Melvin, could play high school football. She graduated from Denison High School in 1950 and attended Southeastern Oklahoma State University while working at Kress's in Denison, where she met her future husband, Wilburn Grisham.

Although Tillie looked forward to the travels of being a military wife, Wilburn's army career was ended early due to an injury, and they settled in Sherman, TX where they raised their family. During this time, Tillie worked at various local private and governmental offices doing administrative work. Following their retirement, she and Wilburn were able to travel across the United States as they had envisioned as newlyweds.

Despite her parents being farmers, Tillie could barely keep a plant alive. But she sure could crochet! She spent many hours creating beautiful afghans and other items which she gifted to loved ones.

Tillie cherished her role as mother and grandmother to her 4 children, 7 grandchildren, and 9 great-grandchildren. Over the years she created many precious memories around the holidays and spending time together as a family.

She and her husband Wib were long time members of Parkview Church of Christ (formerly Dewey Avenue Church of Christ), where she joyfully worshipped Jesus and served in various ways. She particularly enjoyed her involvement with the Ladies Bible class, and loved teaching the Cradle Roll class with the babies (because they didn't care if she could sing.)

Tillie was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 70 years, Wilburn Bealy Grisham; young son, Jeffrey Winston Grisham; her parents, Winston Brown, and Flossie Mae Gibbons; older brother Melvin Brown; and younger brother Sammy Brown.

She will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by the loved ones she leaves behind: daughter Connie Heller and husband Freddy; son Brian Grisham; daughter Kay Kennedy and husband Kerry; granddaughter Kelli Taylor and husband Adam and their children Abby, Will, Aaron, Jessa, Jacob, and Ivy; granddaughter Kasey Cummins and husband Logan Adams and their son Owen; grandson Travis Heller and wife Caitlyn and their children Henry and Jane; granddaughter Ariana Heller; grandsons Kealan, Kevan, and Kaleb Kennedy; along with many other extended family and friends.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 pm, Friday, February 9th, at Waldo Funeral Home.

Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 pm, February 10th, at Parkview Church of Christ in Sherman. Welton Stoker will officiate. Burial will be at Cedarlawn Memorial Park in Sherman.
