Vanessa L. Briggs, born on December 7, 1957, in Sherman, Texas, to Lizzie Mae Dehorney-Briggs and Lawyer Briggs, lived a life full of compassion and dedication. Vanessa, affectionately known by those close to her, passed away surrounded by her loving family, leaving behind a legacy of love and cherished memories.
Vanessa grew up in Sherman, Texas, alongside her sister, Netra D. Briggs. She attended Sherman High School, where she graduated in 1976. During her high school years, Vanessa was an enthusiastic member of the Sherman Hi-Stepper drill team, highlighting her spirit and passion.
Vanessa was a devoted member of Daniel Gray CME Church in Sherman, where she found spiritual solace and community. Her faith played a vital role in her life, guiding her through times of joy and challenge.
Moving to Lewisville, TX, Vanessa continued her career working for Texas Instruments and then transitioned into the medical profession working as a general office manager for various doctors and then as a medical coder. For 35 years, she dedicated herself to caring for others, demonstrating her kindness and professionalism until her retirement.
Vanessa was previously married to Terry L. Polk, with whom she shared three children: Taneise Polk, Terry Polk Jr., and Christopher Polk. After their marriage ended, Vanessa found a soulmate in Randall Drake, who became her treasured partner and the great love of her life. Vanessa was deeply committed to her family, reveling in holidays and special occasions that brought everyone together, particularly cherishing the moments spent with her children and grandchildren, Trevon and Tavion Cook, and Annessa Polk.
Vanessa is survived by her loving sister, Netra Briggs-Hubbard; brother-in-law, Jaimie Hubbard; her children- Taneise, Terry and Chris, grandchildren- Trevon and Tavion Cook, and Annessa, and daughter-in-law Monique; as well as a host of relatives who will miss her dearly. She is preceded in death by her father, Lawyer Briggs; mother, Lizzie Briggs; and her husband, Randall Drake.
Vanessa's warmth, generosity, and loving spirit will be remembered by all who knew her. As we gather to celebrate her life, let us hold close the memories that each of us cherished with her, keeping her spirit alive in our hearts forever.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the dedicated care staff and doctors who knew Vanessa at Medical City of Lewisville for their unwavering commitment and compassionate care during Vanessa's illness. Their efforts were a comfort to us all in these challenging times.
Vanessa Louise Briggs, age 66, of Lewisville and formerly of Sherman, ascended to her eternal home Tuesday, June 18th at Medical City Hospital of Lewisville following an extended illness.
A public visitation will be on Friday, June 21st from 1 P.M. to 5 P.M. at Waldo Funeral Home. The funeral service will be Saturday, June 22nd at 11 A.M. in the Waldo Funeral Chapel, with Rev. R. A. Sommers Sr. officiating. Burial will follow at West Hill Cemetery.
