Velma Alred Haddock left this world on November 27, 2023 to join her Heavenly Father.
Velma was born to William Alred Goforth and Velma Elizabeth Goforth on June 16,1930 in Mescalero, New Mexico. Her father worked for the Indian Agency which took Velma to many Native American Tribal Reservations throughout the West, Southwest and Dakotas through her early years. Velma was Chickasaw and proud of her Native American heritage.
She attended Tularosa High school in New Mexico and later graduated Shawnee High School in Shawnee Oklahoma. She later attended Oklahoma Baptist University in Shawnee Oklahoma. While there she met a baseball pitcher named Perry Haddock who played for OBU. They fell in love and married on June 27th,1948 in Chandler, Ok.
Velma was an avid sports fan and even kept the scorecard when Perry played baseball. Together they had three children, two sons and a daughter. Later, Velma encouraged her children to compete in sports. She loved to watch her daughter Peri compete in gymnastics throughout her successful career. She loved going on excursions in the great outdoors, Velma especially enjoyed the Fall Foliage Tours that took them to various National Parks. She loved camping and fishing with her family and many lifelong friends. Velma was very creative and fashioned many useful arts and crafts to decorate her home.
She dearly loved her family, her children and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Velma attended many different Churches throughout her life. She loved to share her deep Faith with her family and was assured of her Salvation through Our Lord Jesus Christ.
Velma was preceded in death by her Father William Alred Goforth, her Mother Velma Elizabeth Snyder Goforth, her Husband Perry Gene Haddock, her Sister Ardythe Goforth Shields, her Brother W. M. (Bill) Goforth, and Grandson Perry Lane Haddock.
Velma is survived by the families of son Dan Haddock and wife Sarah of Azle, Texas, son Bart Haddock and wife Candace of Sherman, Texas and daughter Peri Summersell and husband Brad of Fairhope, Alabama.
Services will be held at the pavilion at West Hill Cemetery in Sherman, Texas Friday, December 1st at 11:00 am. Dr. Mike Lawson of First Baptist Church of Sherman, Texas will officiate. Services are under the direction of Waldo Funeral Home, Sherman, Texas.
