Velma Lee's Obituary

Velma I. Lee of Sherman, 86 year-old Sherman homemaker, passed away Tuesday morning, September 16, 2008 at Wilson N. Jones Medical Center.

Services will be 10:00 AM Friday, September 19, 2008 in the Waldo Funeral Home Chapel. David Corder, minister of Center Street Church of Christ in Sherman, will officiate and the burial will follow at Kendall Chapel Cemetery near Southmayd.

Velma was born January 1, 1922 at the family home in Cooke County, Texas, the daughter of Cread Talbott and Lulu Shotwell Talbott. She grew up in the Gainesville area where she attended school and graduated from Gainesville High School. She then attended business school in Cooke County before moving to Sherman where she was employed by General Telephone Company as a long distance operator. Her co-workers at the telephone company gave her the nickname ?Snow Flake?. She married Paul E. Lee, former Grayson County clerk, on October 23, 1946 in Savoy.

Velma was a homemaker for many years and was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She was also a devoted caregiver for her family and often put others needs before her own. She loved to crochet and made her family many Afghans, sweaters and stuffed animals. She enjoyed watching golf on television because of the beautiful scenery, not because she was a true golf fan. She will be greatly missed by her family and close friends.

She is survived by two daughters, Linda LeMay of Sherman and Brenda Barnes and her husband Allen of Sachse, Texas; brothers, Hugh Talbott and wife Della of New Braunfels, Tx. and Raymond Talbott and wife Jo of Austin; granddaughter, Erin Parker and husband Richard of Hudson, Tx.; grandsons, Tech Sgt. John Gott and wife Misty of Fairbanks, Alaska, Tech Sgt. James Barnes and wife Melani of San Antonio, Daniel Gott and wife Katrina of Allen, Tx., Staff Sgt. David Gott and wife Vanessa of Abilene, Tx. and Clinton Barnes and wife Ashley of Wylie, Tx. She is also survived by eleven great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband in January of 1996, and a brother Marvin Talbott.

Pallbearers will be John Gott, Daniel Gott, David Gott, Clinton Barnes, Richard Parker and Fred Smith.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 PM Thursday evening at Waldo Funeral Home.
