Obituary

Vida Olyne Kauffman, 93 years old, a Sherman, TX, resident, passed away on June 29, 2029.

Olyne was born on January 14, 1933, in Sherman, to Lewis Haywood and Lillian Mae (Alley) Hines. She was a graduate of Sherman High School. She was saved at Central Baptist Church (now known as Grayson Bible Baptist Church) as a young lady in 1946.

She married Dale Monroe Kauffman on July 1, 1960, in Lancaster, TX. They moved to Scottsdale, AZ, where they lived for 20 years. While living in Arizona, Olyne was employed at Motorola for 15 years.

She and Dale moved back to Texas in 1980, building a home in Gordonville. They owned the Gordonville Country Store until their retirement in early 2000. They then moved to Sherman, TX.

After retiring, Dale and Olyne enjoyed RV travel with friends at Lake Texoma SAMS RV Club. She was a member of Grayson Bible Baptist Church, where she and Dale joined after retirement.

Olyne was a very handy person; she enjoyed quilting, was a talented seamstress, and was a diligent homemaker.

After Dale died in 2016, she lived with her sister, Etta Slate, before entering assisted living at Preston Place. They were so good to her there. Richard was so loving to her, and Gail was very helpful. There can’t be enough said about her stay there.

When she required additional care, Olyne moved to Avir Nursing Home (Homestead). The family is deeply grateful to everyone who cared for her.

Olyne was preceded in death by her husband, Dale Kauffman; her parents, Lewis and Lillian Hines; her brothers, Johnny Hines, Charles Hines and his wife, Bertha, and brother-in-law, Robert Slate.

She is survived by a sister, Etta Slate of Sherman, TX; stepdaughter, Lynette Beebe of Pasadena, TX; goddaughter, Patricia Swick of Glendale, AZ; and sister-in-law, Jean Kauffman.

She is also survived by her loving nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and all of their spouses.

The family will receive friends from 10:00 am to 10:45 am on Wednesday, July 1, 2026, at Waldo Funeral Home.

A graveside service will follow at 11:00 am at the pavilion in West Hill Cemetery. Officiating will be Rev. Charles Hamilton.
