IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Wayland Darrell
Gregory
July 16, 1938 – September 6, 2025
Wayland Darrell Gregory ("WD"), age 87, of Sherman, Texas, passed away peacefully on the morning of September 6, 2025, from complications of a stroke he suffered in January of this year.
WD was born on July 16, 1938, in Van Alstyne, Texas. At an early age, his family moved to Abernathy, Texas, and later to Dallas, where he graduated from Crozier Tech High School in 1956. That same year, he enlisted in the United States Air Force and was stationed at Hamilton Air Force Base in Novato, California. In 1958, he married Susan Marie Barber of Dallas, and together they made their home in Corte Madera, California, until his honorable discharge in 1960.
In 1981, WD founded Battery Distributors of North Texas, which he proudly owned and operated. In later years, he entrusted the business to his son, Bryan Gregory, who continues to run it today. WD remained active in the company until his stroke prevented him from working any longer.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Alvis and Minnie Gregory, and his sisters Geraldine, Mary Lou, and Rheanell.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Susan, of Sherman, TX; his three sons, Douglas Gregory of Arlington, TX; Bryan Gregory and his wife, Dannett, of Sherman, TX; and Phillip Gregory and his wife, Cyndi, of Rhome, TX. WD is also lovingly remembered by his three grandchildren, Amber Bauman and her husband, Caleb, of Wylie, TX; Crystal Gregory of Rhome, TX; and Zoe Bowen and her husband, Travis, of Burleson, TX; as well as his great-granddaughter, Abbie-Jean Bauman, of Wylie, TX.
The family would like to extend heartfelt gratitude to Texoma Medical Center, Texoma Healthcare, The Homestead of Sherman, Nanaw's Place and Concord Hospice for the compassionate care provided to WD. They also wish to thank the many friends and loved ones who offered meals, hospital visits, calls, prayers, and support throughout his illness.
A memorial service will be held at 12:00 noon on September 20, 2025, at the residence of Sue and Wayland Gregory in Sherman, TX. Please contact the family for address information.
