Wayne was born July 28, 1939, one of five children of Carl Henry Vessels and Hazel Lee Hughes Vessels on the Circle C Ranch in Southmayd, Texas. He died on Monday, August 26 at WNJ Hospital.

He graduated from Southmayd Schools in 1957 and went on to a lifetime career in construction and farming operations. Co-owner of Crookham & Vessels Inc. with O. Foy Crookham and owner of Vessels Inc., he worked many heavy highway construction projects throughout Texas and Oklahoma.  Wayne served as President of the Municipal Utilities Division of Associated General Contractors (AGC) and in 1988 served as President of AGC of Texas.  Wayne's influence, while serving on many state and national committees for AGC, benefitted construction projects throughout Texas.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Eddie (Maudie), and grandson Taylor Fulce. Wayne is survived by his wife Linda Scoggins of fifty years, sons Lynn Vessels (Kim), Craig Vessels and daughter Karla Vessels, all of Sherman.  He has 6 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, brother Bill (Kay), sisters Jo Miller and Sue Vessels, as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Greg Vessels, Allen Jones, Steven Hightower, David Deffibaugh, Lance Wood and James Hazlewood.

Services will be held Friday, August 30 at 10am with visitation Thursday, August 29 from 6-8pm at Waldo Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donate to NAMI or your favorite charity.
