Obituary - Weldon Mitchell Smith
Weldon Mitchell Smith gained his Heavenly wings on Thursday, June 17, 2021. He was born on July 9, 1946 in Whitewright, TX to Lottie Cell DeHorney and Clyde Smith. He was raised, and attended school, in Whitewright and Amarillo. Weldon married Jean Stephens in October of 1968 and they had three children together.
Weldon worked at Oscar Mayer for many years. He was also an accomplished mechanic until his health prevented him from working on cars. He worked many years in construction, but he absolutely loved working at Holland Logos designing shirts and making framed pictures of his family. He was also a faithful member of MLK Church of Christ in Denison.
Weldon was preceded in death by his mother, Lottie Cell DeHorney; his father, Clyde Smith; brothers: David Smith, Datra Hollings, Stanley Hollings, and Gerald Haggerty; sisters: Gerita Hopson, Denella Jenkins, and Donna Hollings.
Weldon is survived by his life partner, Barbara Snell; Children: Tanya Henson of Savannah, GA; Steve (Rhonda) Ball of Whitewright; Darrick (Lorena) Evans of Mesquite; Sabrina Smith of Whitewright; Helena Smith of West Jordan, UT; Trenia Evans of Frisco; and Elizabeth Swoopes of Whitewright; Children in love: Angela (Daron) Holland of Denison; Pamela Kirvin of Sherman; Catherine Griffin of Denison; and Monica Snell-McElwain of Frisco; Brothers: Johnny Hollings of Amarillo, Tracy (Emily) Smith of Tyler, and Benjamin Cain of Redlands, CA; Sisters: Denise Jernigan of Amarillo, Diane (Michael) White of Tulia; Schwanda (Tunde) YeQeen of Dallas, and Consuella Webb of Gilmer and many grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and extended family.
Special thanks to Doctors Scott Turner, Jim Tarpley, and Sandober Kable for providing excellent care throughout the years. Also, the care provided by Home Hospice of Grayson County and Nurse Vickie was second to none!
