IN LOVING MEMORY OF
William Davis
Finney
January 11, 1955 – January 3, 2025
William Davis Finney, a brilliant, kind-hearted, and unforgettable man, passed away peacefully on January 3, 2025, surrounded by those he loved and who loved him deeply.
Davis was a devoted Christian, and a beloved father, partner, son, and brother.
Born on January 11, 1955, to Louise & JD - Davis lived a life full of warmth, humor, and generosity, leaving a lasting mark on everyone fortunate enough to know him.
Davis was a lifelong land surveyor, the youngest to ever pass the exam, whose intelligence and precision were unmatched.
Ever the family man, he could often be found spending time with his daughters listening to them play instruments and singing together.
For his true passion lay in art and music; he was an incredible artist who could transform even an Etch A Sketch into a masterpiece.
Always doodling when he should've been paying attention, his creativity and talent shone in everything he touched.
He had a mathematical mind that could do complex trigonometry problems in his sleep and a heart full of music, often serenading others with his harmonica or his gorgeous singing voice. He loved riding his motorcycles, fixing clocks and watches, and spending time with his granddaughter Lyrik.
Davis was a man who gave endlessly to others. Whether it was sharing the spoils of his thrift store and garage sale finds, feeding his dogs Bluebell ice cream, or simply offering the coat off his back... his kindness and generosity of spirit knew no bounds.
He doted on his 94-year-old mother, Louise, his loving partner Mary and made the lives of his daughters, sons, and granddaughter rich and full of laughter, love, and magic.
Known for his resemblance to Santa Claus, Davis delighted countless children during the holiday season with a wink, a "Ho Ho Ho," and his sparkling blue eyes.
Davis cherished classic rock and country western music & movies, thunderstorms, sunsets, and any kind of astrological event.
He also loved to travel, especially anywhere that he could swim in the ocean or have the wind in his hair. Some of his best times were spent in a plane with his beloved brother.
He spent his days telling hilarious jokes, sharing belly laughs, and making every gathering brighter with his humor and warmth. Whether hitting golf balls in his spare time, going to concerts, or cooking a mean steak, he filled life with joy and adventure.
Those who knew him will forever remember his loud sneezes and snores, his love of garage sales and dumpster diving, his gorgeous voice, his mischievous sense of humor, and his steadfast generosity.
Davis's spirit will live on in the family, music, art, and countless memories he left behind.
He is survived by his devoted mother, Louise Finney; his loving partner, Mary Childress; his two daughters, Adriana Finney and Sheila Finney; his son-in-law, Stephen Battles; his only grandchild - Lyrik Battles; and his five siblings: Vickie, Alma, Jimmy, Harold, and Jana along with their spouses Jerry, Scott, Janie, and Michael, and by his step son Blake Pitchford. He is also remembered fondly by countless nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Davis was preceded in death by his father, James Davis "JD" Finney, his niece Jennifer Finney, and his sister-in-law Judy Finney. Along with his beloved german shepherd Loki.
Services to celebrate Davis's extraordinary life will be held at Waldo Funeral Home in Sherman, Texas. He will be buried with the rest of his family in Hall Cemetery in Howe.
Family night is Mon Jan, 6th at 6 - 8 PM & the funeral will be held Tues Jan 7th at 10AM at Waldo Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you honor his memory by sharing a joke, creating something beautiful, or showing kindness to a stranger.
