Obituary

William Hayden "Bill" Hayes was born on November 5th, 1952 in Plainview, Texas to Charles and Barbara Hayes.

He spent his childhood in Plainview, Texas with his two brothers Mike and David Hayes. The family moved from Plainview to Pottsboro, Texas where he attended high school and graduated in the class of 1971.

Bill was married shortly after which blessed him with his first daughter Tracy Lynn Hayes. He then joined the Navy, and was stationed in Virginia Beach, Va. He served aboard the USS Forrestal, the USS Nimitz and was in squadron VF 74.

It was during this time that he was introduced to his future wife, Wanda Howard. After a whirlwind courtship they married on November 19th, 1974. While continuing his duty in the Navy, he was blessed with another girl Heather Eve Hayes. Upon his leaving the Navy, Bill moved with his wife and daughter back to Texas and eventually settled in Sherman.

He attended Grayson County College and obtained a degree in HVAC heating and cooling. In 1981, he was blessed with another child, his son, Matt Hayes. He worked in the field of industrial refrigeration throughout his career. He finished his career at Tyson foods in Sherman, Texas as the power plant supervisor.

After retirement, Bill was diagnosed with Lung Cancer, but he handled that like everything else he ever did, with class, dignity, and a positive attitude. He died on January 26th, 2024, at 8:20AM.

He is survived by his loving wife, Wanda Hayes, his children Tracy Lynn Hayes, Heather Hayes, Matt & Eriel Hayes, and Dean Stroope. His grandchildren Haleigh Dickson & Casey Akers, Samantha & Joshua Murtha, Lauren Stroope, Trey Hayes, Max and Macy Perez, Alex and Luke Hayes. He also had 5 great grandchildren that he loved dearly. Bill is also survived by his loving older brother David & Kay Hayes as well as his Three sisters in love Sue Grimsley and Tracy & Allen Schaffer and Hester & Phil Dupont As well as his amazing nieces and nephews Charlie Hayes, Zack Hayes, Jenny Grimsley & Chad Pryor, Danny Grimsley & Ashley Bitterman as well as many more friends and loved ones.

Bill injected a pinch of himself into all of us with his time and constant dedication, and for that we will always be grateful and hold those memories close to our hearts.
