A memorial funeral service for William "Craig" Willis will be held at 2:00 PM Friday November 19 at Waldo Funeral Home. Rev. Leland Samuelson of the Sherman House of Praise will officiate. Honorary pallbearers are Mike VanHorn, Bob VanHorn, David VanHorn, Gary Willis, Jimmy Melton, and Woody Wilson. Mr. Willis, 56, passed away Tuesday November 16 at Texas Healthcare Presbyterian-WNJ.
Craig was born August 10, 1954 in St. Louis, Missouri to the late John "Mid" Willis and Bettye (Dacon) Willis. He graduated from Sherman High School in 1973 and married Debbie D. Vree on October 7, 1974 in Sherman. Craig worked for several years as a mental health technician at Medical Plaza Hospital in Sherman and North Texas Medical Center in McKinney. Craig overcame many obstacles in his life and never let his challenges defeat him. A true "family man", Craig was a devoted father and husband. He was an avid coin collector, enjoyed fishing, and was a member of the Luella Baptist Church.
Craig is survived by his wife of 36 years, Debbie of Sherman; two daughters, Kristi Okray and her husband Michael of Sherman and Kimberly Willis of Sherman; grandson, Nathan Okray; brother, Gary Willis and his wife JoEllen Wilson of Garland; nephew, Woody Wilson of Garland; cousins, David VanHorn of Sherman, Mike VanHorn of Sherman, and Bob VanHorn of Carrollton; and other "adopted" family members, including Reenee Reifel and Traci Shamburger. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, John Willis.
The family will receive friends Friday evening at 6:00 PM at the home of Mike and Peggy VanHorn, 10291 Hwy 56 East, Sherman, TX. The register book can be signed online at waldofuneralhome.com.
