Obituary

Yolanda Moreno Cruz passed from this world unexpectedly on Friday, July 11, 2025, at the age of 71 from long term renal disease and recent cardiac complications.

She was born August 13, 1953, in Sherman, Texas at the Saint Vincent's Catholic Hospital. She was a twin daughter of Ruben Moreno and Josephine A. Sandoval Moreno.

She grew up in Sherman and lived primarily on South Montgomery Street and enjoyed a rich diverse childhood in a multi-ethnic neighborhood where all children lived, loved, and respected each other and their elders.

Yolanda never met a stranger and if you were her friend, she would greet you loud and proud!!!

Yolanda attended Sherman public schools and graduated in 1972 from Sherman High School. She was always proud of her bearcat heritage and wore her school colors often right up to her passing. In her senior year at SHS she was enrolled in the ICT program (Industrial Cooperative Training) and worked half days at Johnson & Johnson as an administrative assistant.

She hoped after graduation, she would move to full time employment, but it was not meant to be. Looking for employment and involved in a very serious romantic relationship, she soon found herself married but it was not a good union. She soon found herself leaving her hometown and living with her father in Plano.

She found employment working in retail establishments and soon was involved in traveling to various cities, setting up new stores and training new employees. New Orleans, Louisiana, Vicksburg, Mississippi and Fort Smith, Arkansas were just a few of the locations she traveled to.

Yolanda would end up in San Antonio, Tx and reconnected with family there and that's where she met David Cruz, a Vietnam combat Marine Veteran and married him in the spring of 2000. Yolanda enjoyed her life and husband there in San Antonio until his passing in 2015.

With failing health and unable to care for herself properly, she returned to Denison, Tx to live with her twin brother and his family in January 2023. It wasn't Sherman but compared to distance in the San Antonio Metro Area it was "Just down the street a piece".

Yolanda and her twin brother considered themselves living in enemy territory especially during the Hotly contested annual football rivalry, the "Battle of the Axe".

Yolanda and her twin brother spent the last two and half years of her life living, bonding as only twins can, and loving each other and doing all the things they could do together to enjoy to the maximum the time they had left to be together.

Yolanda is survived by her twin brother Mario Moreno and wife Robbin of Denison, Tx, sister Consuelo Bishop and husband Bobby of Denison, Tx, numerous nieces and nephews, grand nieces and nephews, and great grand nieces and nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles, too numerous to list, and a host of Church family and friends.

Yolanda is preceded in death by her parents, her brother Joseph Ruben Moreno who died two days after birth grandparents, sister Gloria Moreno Parks, and nephew James Allen Mikalikas III.
