Mildred
Bullard
Oct 1, 1934 — May 8, 2026
Mildred Hazelwood Bullard, 91, passed away peacefully with her husband Olan of 73 years and family at her bedside. She went to her Heavenly Home on May 8, 2026.
Mildred Hazelwood Bullard was born to Raymond Earl and Mary Beatrice Hazelwood on October 1, 1934, in Hagerman, TX. She met Olan while he was home on furlough from the Air Force in Tampa, FL. She literally pulled his car out of the ditch on a dirt road between their homes in Southmayd and Whitesboro. They had a whirlwind romance and were married on October 17, 1952, at Central Baptist Church in Whitesboro, TX. They spent their first year of married life in Tampa, FL, and returned to Texas the next year before the arrival of their first child.
She was a graduate of Sadler & Southmayd CISD High School in 1952. Mildred grew up on a farm in Southmayd, the second child of six children. She wrote many stories of the wonderful times she had with her two sisters and three brothers, whom she loved dearly.
After the arrival of their fourth child, Olan gave his life to Jesus and surrendered to the ministry in 1960 while he and Mildred were attending Miller Memorial Baptist Church in Collinsville, TX. Rev. Hugh Newsom, pastor of the church and a dear friend, mentored Olan, and he and Mildred moved their family of two girls and two boys to Decatur, where he attended Decatur Baptist College, and became a minister in the Southern Baptist Association. She and Olan moved their family to churches in Texas, Oklahoma, and Illinois.
Mildred enjoyed being a pastor’s wife and working in their churches. She held several roles, including pianist, Sunday school teacher, Youth Director, VBS director, and pageant coordinator.
She was an artist in oil and watercolor and painted pictures of her homes, churches, oil wells and scenery. Mildred also taught art at her kids’ school. She loved photography and always had a camera with her, becoming the family photographer and historian.
She had a career as a secretary in most of the cities she lived in. During her 80s, she was still volunteering at the local food bank in Sherman. She truly had a servant’s heart and loved everyone. Olan and Mildred retired in Sherman, TX until they eventually moved to San Antonio with their youngest daughter, Carolyn. Mildred left a legacy of love and care for others which originated from her love of Jesus. She has made a lasting difference in multiple generations. She will be deeply missed by family and friends.
Mildred is survived by her husband Olan; Daughter Beverly Bond and husband Robert of Sherman; Son Eugene Bullard and wife Kathy of Wichita Falls; Son David Bullard and wife Dana of Southmayd; Daughter Carolyn Spencer and husband Randy of San Antonio. Sisters Wanda Reichert and Peggy Bailey, Brothers Billie Hazelwood and James Hazelwood, and a host of Grandchildren and Great Grandchildren, Nieces and Nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents Raymond and Mary Hazelwood; Brother Bobbie Hazelwood and Wife Norma; Brother-in-Law Bill Rushing; Sister-in-Law Flora B Hazelwood; and Grandson Brock Smith.
Visitation will be at Waldo Funeral Home on May 16, 2026 at 1:00pm and a Celebration of Life following at 2:00pm. There will be a brief graveside service at Cedarlawn Memorial Cemetery in Sherman, TX.
