Hazel Caraway Mitchell

Funeral services for Hazel Caraway Mitchell will be held at 2:00 pm Tuesday, October 2 at Waldo Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 1:00 pm until service time on Tuesday at Waldo Funeral Home. Mrs. Mitchell passed away on September 28 at the age of 90 in the Christian Care Center in Mesquite. She had lived in Sherman until moving to Mesquite last year.

Hazel was born on August 31, 1917 in Tom Bean to the late Vardry and Sally (Langford) Griffin. She married Horrace Winton Caraway on November 23, 1940. He preceded her in death on June 20, 1988 after 48 years of marriage. Hazel was a member of the Church of Christ, attending Walnut Street, Travis Street, and Western Heights Churches of Christ.

She is survived by one daughter, Sue McBee and her husband Jerry of Garland; two grandchildren, Greg McBee of Mesquite and Michelle Covington of Midlothian, Texas; two great grandchildren, Chase and Taite McBee of Mesquite, Texas; one brother, Wyatt Griffin of Van Alstyne; one brother-in-law, Hansel Caraway of Dallas; and a host of nieces and nephews.

On July 20, 1993 Hazel married Harold B. Mitchell. He preceded her in death on July 24, 2007. She is survived by his three daughters; Shirley Lowrie of The Woodlands, Nancy McCombs of Euless, and Phyllis Rice of Spring.
