Gunter- Funeral services for John F. Vick will be held at 2:00 pm Friday, March 28 in the Chapel on the Hill at Cedarlawn Memorial Park. Rev. Charles Glass of the Faith Church will officiate with Mr. Vick's grandchildren serving as honorary pallbearers. Mr. Vick passed away Wednesday, March 26 at Hilltop Haven in Gunter at the age of 80.
John Franklin Vick was born on July 20, 1927 in Mead, Oklahoma to the late Alexander and Ruth (Harmon) Vick. He married Joyce Hames on June 16, 1955 in the Southmayd Baptist Church. John worked as a pusher in the oilfield for several years before going into the trucking business with his brother in 1958. Mr. Vick retired in 2003 and enjoyed riding and training horses, and working his cattle during retirement. John was a longtime member and deacon at the Faith Church.
Mr. Vick is survived by his wife, Joyce of Gunter; one son, Johnny Lee Vick and his wife Tonya of Sherman; two daughters, Caroline Bond and husband Stephen of Dorchester and Yolonda Franks and husband Roy of Sherman; nine grandchildren, Shantell Coco, Jack Bond, Nick Bond, Tyler Vick, Travis Vick, Harris Vick, Calley Vick, Winston Franks, and Molly Franks; six great grandchildren; one brother; six sisters; and numerous nieces and nephews. John's family will remember him as a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Harris Vick.
