Ed was born at Kentucky Town, Grayson County on November 29, 1913. He was the youngest of 9 children born to Ewing Blakey and Mary Bell (Mollie) Cobb Blakey. His family moved to Fannin County when Ed was a baby. He attended school in Savoy, Texas, graduating from High School there.

Ed married Genelle Feagans on September 20, 1942 in Sherman, Texas. After their marriage, he was a farmer until he enlisted in the Army Air Force. He received his discharge in October 1945. After leaving the service, Ed farmed for 2 years until he and his family moved to Sherman. Ed was employed by the Lone Star Gas Company, Bill Huebsch Plumbing and later he worked as a civilian employee at Perrin Air Force Base as a plumber and steam fitter. During his tenure at Perrin he was awarded the Superior Performance award for his work. When Ed retired from Civil Service in 1971 he owned and operated a second hand store and raised cattle. Ed had a green thumb that was very evident in the large vegetable garden and the roses that he loved to grow.

He was a member of the Parkview Church of Christ where he was active in the Brothers Keeper program and other activities as long as his health permitted.

Ed loved telling a good story or a good joke, especially political jokes. He enjoyed time spent with his family and faithfully attended the Blakey family reunion each year.
