SAN FRANCISCO - Brandt Martin Cannici of San Francisco, formerly of Sherman and Dallas, was killed in an automobile accident in Los Alamos, Calif., on Feb. 19, 2009.
Brandt was born Aug. 11, 1978, in Charleston, S.C., the son of Drs. James Cannici and Cynthia Martin-Cannici. He graduated from the University of Texas at Dallas with a degree in management information systems. He was a member of the Chi Phi fraternity.
He was employed as an English instructor in Osaka, Japan, and then selected as director of the Kaplan Center in Tokyo. He traveled around the world as an instructor on the 49th Peace Boat Voyage. He returned to the U.S. where he was active in internet entrepreneurship, founding Strayform and Medicare Saver. He was also a publisher for CallStreet and an instructor for The Embassy Center for English Studies. It's almost impossible to define Brandt with only words on paper. To know Brandt was to know great joy, excitement, and lots of fun. To be fair, he could also be maddeningly frustrating and some of his adventures were more than a little scary - but life with Brandt was never, ever boring. That's the way he would want it to be remembered.
He is survived by his parents; sister and brother-in-law Alina and Rob Willson of Charlotte, N.C.; sisters Laura Cannici of Austin, Huxley Anne and Darcy Jane McCorkle of Gainesville; grandparents Nick and Marilou Cannici of Sarasota, Fla., Cloris Martin of Sherman, Virginia Egan of Little Rock, Ark. and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his stepfather Dr. Rick McCorkle; stepmother Cecelia Cannici; and grandfathers Barney Martin and Bud Egan.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday March 1, 2009, at Sparkman Funeral Home, 1029 S. Greenville Ave., Richardson. The phone number is (972) 238-7855 . An electronic guestbook is available at "Remembering Brandt" on facebook.com. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Heart House Dallas, an afterschool program for low income children where Brandt was a dedicated volunteer.
Waldo Funeral Home in Sherman has charge of the arrangements.
