Obituary

Our Dearest Wife, Mother and Grandmother Humurtis Milam, age 85, went peacefully to be with Jesus on Saturday, February 28, 2009. Services will be held Saturday, March 7, 2009 at 11:00 am at New Hope Christian Center, 2810 S. Mirick, Denison, TX. Officiating will be Pastor Billy W. Milam, Rev. Malcom Milam, Rev. Robin Redrick and Rev. Marvin Wilson. Waldo Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Interment will be at Cedarlawn Memorial Park.

Humurtis was born November 25, 1923. She was the daughter of the late Ben and Lola Wilson Bowens. She attended Terrell High School in Denison, Texas. On March 18, 1947, at the age of 21, she united in marriage with Bill Milam in Sherman, Texas. They enjoyed 63 years of marriage. She was employed at MBank where she retired after 19 years of service. After retiring, she wanted to continue to be a blessing to others, especially children, "If they were happy, she was happy?, many of whose lives she touched through babysitting until her health failed. She was a very devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Her humor, laughter, kind heart and warm spirit will be remembered by those who knew her.

She was a member of St. John CME Church for over 40 years where she served as President of the Missionary Society, Angelic Choir, and helped organized Federated Choirs of Sherman. Later, she moved her membership to New Testament Bible Church in Denison, Texas to support her son, Pastor Billy W. Milam.

Humurtis is survived by her loving husband, Bill Milam; her children, Carolyn Phelps and husband Homer, of Sherman, TX, Billy Milam and wife George Etta of Denison, TX, Ouida Hicks, Marsha McDuffie and husband Larry of Houston, TX, Lola Milam and Erica Milam of Sherman, TX; one sister Mary Frances Baker of Denison, TX; 10 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; 1 great-great grand child and a host of nieces, nephews and special friends. She was preceded in death by her sister Annie B. Smith.

Visitation will be Friday, March 6th at Waldo Funeral Home in Sherman from 6:00 to 8:00 PM.

Pallbearers will be Kenneth Phelps, Michael Owens, Larry Adams, Craig Fuggett, Aaron Milan and Milton Brown. Honorary Pallbearers are Toney Carter, Dre'Lon Luper, Miles Eackles and Brian Andrews.
