Monica Guadalupe Reynoso Venegas Mudgett

Sherman- A Mass of Christian Burial for Monica Mudgett will be held at 10:00 AM Saturday, December 5 at St. Mary's Catholic Parish. Rev. Jeremy Myers of the church will officiate. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery with Roger Mudgett, Tito Reynoso, Rudy Reynoso, Carlos Reynoso, Hector Reynoso, and Leonel Lupercio serving as pallbearers. Mrs. Mudgett passed away Saturday, November 28 at Presbyterian Hospital in Dallas at the age of 53.

Monica was a gifted woman, always dedicated to her family, church and the community. Always smiling, Monica had a vibrant and positive attitude that radiated to others. Her positive spirit of love and compassion was bestowed on those around her. Her love will live on through the lives that she touched. She will always be remembered as a big inspiration to her children and to those who knew her.

Born and raised in Guadalajara, México, Monica was the oldest of 11 children and known as the second mother to her brothers and sisters. As many immigrants did before her, she came to the United States in search of new opportunity. She wed Roger Mudgett in 1981 and soon moved from Chicago, IL to Sherman, TX to be closer to her family. Over the next few years Christopher, James and Michelle were born and the real work of raising children was just getting started.

Between working to raise her children and helping out in the community she found time to become a naturalized citizen of the United States. She wore her citizenship proudly and continued to dedicate her time and service too many community organizations. Always an advocate for the interchange of ideas between cultures, she helped to organize Hispanic cultural events in Grayson County.

Her goal of uniting Latin and American community members from all walks of life came to fruition in 1997. With support from the Grayson County Health Department where she was employed for twelve years, she created ?The Hispanic Heritage Celebration? and served as a chairman for the event until 2002. For several years she worked in coordination with Austin College in the festivity of ?El Cinco de Mayo?.



She was the first Hispanic woman in North Texas to receive the TDH Diploma as an instructor for Spanish classes to certify food managers. The Susan G. Komen Foundation elected her as one of eleven Hispanic women in the nation to form the National Hispanic/Latina Advisory Council.

In July of 2001 she joined with her brother Rudy Reynoso in LA VOZ HISPANA Magazine. She was in charge of marketing as well as community and non-profit organization announcements.

She worked as a parenting teacher for the SISD in region 10 Early Head Start for over four years. In 2006 she graduated from CCCCD a Child Development Associate with a Certification as Child Development Facilities Administrator.

Monica had been working for Grayson Community College as the Hispanic Initiative Coordinator. In 2009 Monica was elected president of Grayson County Social Services where she had been a member for several years. She was owner of MGM Food Services for the past 6 years and in 2006 she opened a bridal shop, Monica's Place, in downtown Sherman.

Apart from dedicating her time to her family, her main desire was to make this community a better place for all. She will truly be missed and always loved. Her endless drive to help others will continue to inspire us well into the future.

Monica is survived by her parents, J. Guadalupe Reynoso and Maria (Venegas) Reynoso; husband, Roger of Sherman; two sons, Christopher Joseph Mudgett and James Matthew Mudgett, both of Los Angeles; one daughter, Cynthia Michelle Mudgett of Sherman; five brothers, Rudy Reynoso and wife Monica of Sherman, Tito Reynoso and wife Marisol of Sherman, Alfonso Reynoso of Mexico, Hector Reynoso of Sherman, and Carlos Reynoso of Colombia; five sisters, Lourdes Blanco and her husband Francisco of Monterey, Mexico, Mercedes Contreras and husband Chava of Denison, Micaela Marraccini and husband Dino of San Francisco, CA, Maria Leouisa Alva and husband Chuy of Sherman and Esther Lupercio and husband Leonel of Sherman; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other family members. She was preceded in death by one brother Juan Carlos Reynoso.

A rosary will be said at 6:00 pm Friday, December 4 at Waldo Funeral Home. Family visitation will follow from 6:30-9:00 pm. The register book can be signed online at waldofuneralhome.com.
