Israel "Izzy"Aleman, Sr.

Sherman- Izzy Aleman, Sr, loving husband, dad, and grandpa passed away Friday morning, April 30 at the Baylor Heart Hospital in Plano at the age of 65. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Tuesday May 4 in the Sherman Bible Church. Dr. James Shupp of the Castle Hills 1st Baptist Church in San Antonio and Dr. Allen Knight of Hilltop Baptist Church in Colorado Springs, Colorado will officiate with services under the direction of Waldo Funeral Home. Burial with Masonic rites will follow at West Hill Cemetery with Jim Dunn, Ron Bostwick, Blair Andrews, Scott Adams, Roger Benedict, and Gary Roberts serving as pallbearers.

Izzy was born August 14, 1944 in Sherman, Texas to Angelina "Helen" (Rodriguez) Aleman and the late Eulogio (Pete) Aleman. Izzy graduated from Sherman High School in 1962 where he was active in sports and played on the legendary "Skinny 20" football team and later played semi-pro football for Sherman-Denison Jets. After high school Izzy worked at Texas Instruments before going to work for the Abel Aleman Mexican Restaurants in Denison, Sherman, and Norman, Oklahoma. On July 9, 1977 he and Wendy Strohl were married in the Calvary Baptist Church. In 1979 Mr. Aleman opened Sherman Roofing Company and later expanded his business with the addition of A&M Asphalt and Paving. Izzy developed Seasons West Subdivision and co-owned the Casa Vieja Restaurants in Whitewright and Bonham. Mr. Aleman joined Fairview Baptist Church in 1989 and served on many committees including the organization of the Tracks Men's Prayer Group, which he was still leading. An avid Bearcat Fan, Mr. Aleman wholeheartedly supported the Bearcat Football program. Mr. Aleman was a member of the Grayson County Scottish Rite Club, the Dallas Valley Scottish Rite, and the Travis Masonic Lodge 117. He also enjoyed golf, movies, eating out, and "going north". He loved spending time with his family and coffee buddies. His greatest passion was leading others to Christ. It was his desire for everyone to love one another.

Mr. Aleman is survived by his wife Wendy of Sherman; one son, Israel "Izzy" Aleman, Jr. and his wife Erica; four daughters, Kim Dunlap and husband Melvin, Gina Aleman, Valerie Walters and husband Jim Bob, and Holly Yeary and husband Kevin; 14 grandchildren, Justin Aleman, Keetyn Aleman, Josh Aleman and wife Ashley, Taylor Dunlap, Chassidie Dunlap, Ashton Walters, Rodney Eleby, Jake Walters, Kali Aleman, Katilyn Barnett, Wade Walters, Paige Aleman, Dallas Aleman, and one future great grandchild; mother, Helen Aleman; brother, Abel Aleman and wife Judy; two sisters, Helen Kerr and Becky Roberson and her husband Don; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Eulogio (Pete) Aleman; two brothers, Abraham and David Aleman; and a brother-in-law, Ken Kerr.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 Monday at Waldo Funeral Home. The online register book can be signed at waldofuneralhome.com. Memorials may be made to Fairview Baptist Church Youth Ministries at 222 W. Taylor Sherman, TX 75092.
