Sherman- Funeral services for Lester Dale Scally will be held at 10:30 AM Thursday July 8 at Waldo Funeral Home. Rev. Bob Stephens and Delbert Preuninger will officiate. Burial with military honors will follow at Cedarlawn Memorial Park with Keith Scally, Paul Scally, Tim Chambeless, Luke Scally, Stephen Preuninger, Randell Coolman, and Terry Phillips serving as pallbearers. Mr. Scally, 87, passed away Sunday July 4 at his home in Sherman.
Lester was born February 27, 1923 in Bonham, Texas to the late Byron and Minnie Mae (Morris) Scally. He attended Denison and Preston Bend schools prior to entering the US Navy on June 12, 1942. He would later receive his diploma in 1947. Lester served in World War II, including D-Day and was honorably discharged on October 4, 1945. On August 2, 1946, Lester and Estelle Kirschner were married in Denison. Following his military service, Mr. Scally worked for the MKT Railroad. He later attended the University of Houston and attended seminary in Little Rock, Arkansas Ardmore, Oklahoma in 1950. In 1968, Lester retired from the railroad and began work as a civil service employer for Perrin Air Force Base before retiring in 1976.
Ordained in 1950, Mr. Scally pastored churches in Arkansas, Oklahoma, and Texas. He served as the pastor of the Loving Missionary Baptist Church in Sherman for 54 years and was a former member of the Grayson County Sheriff's Posse.
Mr. Scally is survived by his wife of over 63 years, Estelle of Sherman; two sons, Randy Scally and wife Margaret of Sherman and Timothy Scally and wife Kris of Rhome, Texas; daughter, Brenda Preuninger and husband Delbert of Winfield, AL; grandchildren, Keith Scally of Garland; Stephen Preuninger and wife Jill of Winfield, AL, Denise Chambeless and husband Tim of Fayett, AL; Paul Scally of Sherman, Lauren Scally of Denton, Luke Scally of Rhome; great grandchildren, Ethan Chambeless and Isaac Chambeless; brother, James Harry Scally of Denison; sisters-in-law, Ethel Forisha, Elsie Sikes, and Eleane Lovell; special friend, Randell Coolman; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, four sisters, two brothers, and a daughter, Linda Faye Scally.
