Gene Burpo

Sherman- Funeral services for Walter Eugene Burpo will be held at 2:00 PM Tuesday September 11 at Waldo Funeral Home. Reuben Henson will officiate. Mr. Burpo, 85, passed away Friday September 7 at Texas Health Presbyterian- WNJ Medical Center.

Gene was born June 26, 1927 in Ravenna, Texas to the late John Walter Burpo and Edith (Springs) Burpo. Mr. Burpo worked for 15 years at the Sherman Foundry. He later worked in construction for Con Agra and the Stewart Fence Company. Gene was an avid hunter and fisherman and loved playing dominoes.

Mr. Burpo is survived by three daughters, Debbie Monroe and husband Gary of Bells, Sonya Coble of Sherman, and Tamera Flores and husband Tony of Sherman; three sons, Ron Burpo and wife Lena of Denison, Rusty Burpo of Sherman, and Michael Burpo of Sherman; one sister, Patsy Burpo of Ravenna; wife, Cora (Scott) Burpo of Denison; 10 grandchildren, Rachel Northcutt, Joshua Burpo, Vanessa Ora-a, Justin Monroe, Mandy Meeks, Christina Alexander, Keith Burpo, Miranda Ishmael, Cody Mills, and Nikki Tanner; and 20 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two daughters, Sandra Jones and Rebecca Burpo; one grandson, Matthew Jones, and a wife, Vena Burpo.

Mr. Burpo was a lifetime member of the Elks Lodge. A celebration of life will be held at 6:00 PM Friday September 14 at the Elks Lodge. The register book can be signed online at waldofuneralhome.com.
