Sherman- A Mass of Christian Burial for Severo "Rod" Rodriguez will be held at 2:00 PM Friday January 25 at St. Mary's Catholic Church. Burial will follow at West Hill Cemetery with Severo Rodriguez Jr, Rolando Rodriguez, Robert Morales, Jesse Winchester, Rich Melgaard, and Gary Runnels serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Martin Rodriguez, Hunter Bounds, Jeff Wiser, and Armando Pacheco. Diagnosed with cancer on December 26, Mr. Rodriguez, 70, passed away peacefully on Tuesday January 22 at Texoma Medical Center while surrounded by his family.
Rod was born October 25, 1942 in Bastrop, Texas to the late Jose and Nieves (Herrera) Rodriguez. He moved to Sherman in 1960 and worked as a supervisor for 35 years at the Sherman Foundry. Rod had worked as a salesman for the last ten years at Halliburton Salvage. On July 3, 2006, he and Rosemary Morales were married in Sherman. Rod was a true handyman and enjoyed working on cars and lawnmowers in his free time. He was a longtime member of St. Mary's Catholic Church.
Mr. Rodriguez will be remembered as a devoted and loving husband, father, and grandfather who cherished his family. He is survived by his wife Rosemary of Sherman; six children, Severo Rodriguez Jr, Rolando Rodriguez, Patricia Rodriguez, Casandra Melgaard and her husband Rich, Robert Morales and wife Cindy, and Cristina Morales; four grandchildren, Kristina Marie Rodriguez, Martin Kristopher Rodriguez, Hunter Lawrence Bounds, and Bella Melgaard; two brothers, Domingo Hernandez and wife Maria of Gregory, Texas and Armando Ayala and wife Melanie of Pittsburg, Texas; eight sisters, Julia Gonzalez of Bastrop, Texas, Tina Rodriguez of San Antonio, Carolyn Flores of Bastrop, Mary Hernandez of Dallas, Rosa Duncan of Bastrop, Benita Rodriguez of Austin, Carol Ayala, and Joann (Rogelio) Dellgadillo; three sisters-in-law, Phyllis Flowers and husband Roy, Susie Streng, and Cecila Rodriguez; brother-in-law, Phil Medrano and wife Karolyn; mother-in-law, Martha Medrano; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jose and Nieves (Herrera) Rodriguez; three brothers, Jose Manuel Rodriguez, Arthuro Rodriguez, and Daniel Rodriguez; and one granddaughter, Adrianna Rodriguez Bounds.
A rosary will be recited at 5:30 Thursday at Waldo Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 PM following the rosary.
