Donald L. Barnes Sr. 1944-2013
Sherman- Don L. Barnes Sr., husband, dad, and grandpa, departed this life on Friday, February 8, 2013 at UT Southwestern St. Paul Medical Center in Dallas at the age of 68. Don was born February 21, 1944 in Denison, Texas to Henry and Mary (Pierce) Barnes and has lived most of his life in Sherman. Don attended Sherman High from 1960-1961. He married Brenda Kay Conger on July 16, 1974 in Sherman and have been blessed with over 39 years of marriage. Don worked for W.L. Pickens and Sherman Meat Co. for 16 years before he operated his own welding service that lasted over 15 years. Don's welding service specialized in heavy equipment repair and included many different jobs. After a career in welding, Don started B&S Window and Screen Builders (Barnes and Son) in which he was active till his death. Don Jr. will take the reins as owner/operator and will direct the family business. Don was very active in the Sherman-Denison Community Development Program until his death. He had a passion of giving and helping people in need of home repair. Don enjoyed working, fishing, and was known for his homemade catfish bait. Don enjoyed the time he had with his family and was a friend to all.
Don was preceded in death by his parents, son, Jerry Wayne Barnes, two sisters, Linda Ann and Mary Francis.
He is survived by his wife, Brenda Kay of Sherman, TX, son, Don Barnes Jr. and wife, Jennifer of Sherman, TX, daughter, Tracy Bermea of Ft. Worth, TX, grandchildren, Jordan Taylor 'Jack', Austin Milligan, and Harmony Barnes.
Services to celebrate Don's life will be held on Wednesday, Feb. 13, at 1:00pm in Waldo Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor David Murphy of North Park Baptist Church officiating. Interment will follow at Akers Cemetery with Tony Blythe and Robert Pecor serving as pallbearers.
The family will receive friends from 6-8pm on Tuesday evening at Waldo Funeral Home.
