Obituary

Robert Louis Ketner of Sherman went peacefully to be with his Lord and Savior early Friday morning, January 17, 2014. Robert, fondly referred to as "papa" or "pops" was born in Gunter, Texas on December 4, 1934 to the late Henry Ketner and Annie Haker Ketner. He married the late Nettie Troxtell on September 2, 1965 in Sherman, Texas.

He attended Gunter Schools and later received his GED. He worked in the HVAC area at Burlington Industries for over 25 years until they closed in the 80's. While at Burlington, he made many lifelong friends. After it closed, he worked at the Community National Bank, First Baptist Church, and at the old Sher-Den Mall. He remained at the mall until they demolished it in 2004 and retired at that time.

Robert enjoyed having people over to what became known as the "party garage." He had many friends and family that would come over and play their guitars and sing until all hours of the night. He would put a few briskets on his smoker and loved to just sit around listening to them sing.

Robert's daughter and son-in-law took care of him once his health started to decline. His beloved son-in-law, David would make sure that he went everywhere with them. David loved, took care of him, and thought of him as his own dad. He also had the pleasure of living with them and his youngest grandson, Justin. He loved watching Justin play soccer, baseball, and football. In "papa's" eyes, Justin could do no wrong and was his pride and joy. They played together just like two best friends and many mornings they would be up and outside riding their motorized carts before anyone else was awake in the house. They would come up with some crazy ideas when playing, but made many sweet cherished memories together.

Robert is survived by his daughter, June Ann Hendrik and husband David Hendrik of Sherman, son Jack Medler of Sherman, son Mike Ketner and wife Rita of Arizona, and daughter Sherry Garson of Florida; 8 grandchildren, Justin, Adam, Spencer, Jason, Fallon, Ali, Josh, and Caitlin; 2 great-grandchildren , Kayden and Emily, and many cousins.

He was preceded in death by his wife Nettie Troxtell Ketner, sister Geneva Ketner, and his parents, Henry and Annie Ketner.

Visitation will be held Sunday, January 19, 2014 from 6:00-8:00 at Waldo Funeral Home and services on Monday, January 20, 2014 at 1:00 at Waldo Funeral Home. Graveside services will follow at Cedarlawn Memorial Park.

Pallbearers will be John Cummings, Carl Baxley, Bill Jennings, Rick Skipworth, Mike Skipworth, Gerald Brown, Joe Schovonec and Brian Cordell.

The family would like to say a special thank you to Calvin Holland, Sherri Burden, and Bonnie Watson and many more for their caring of Robert these last several years.
