Obituary

Dr. John Emerick Marlow passed away Thursday July 31, 2014 in Sherman, TX. He was born November 15, 1926 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, the only child of John Wyman and Rita Faye Emerick Marlow.

A graduate of Mellon High School in MT Lebanon, PA he later enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Force in 1944 and was assigned to the medical corps' at Straub, Germany. After his discharge John earned his bachelor's degree from Washington-Jefferson College and in 1953 his medical degree from the University of Pittsburgh. He then completed residency in general practice at the county hospital in Westchester, Pennsylvania and an internship at Columbia Hospital in Wilksburgh, Pennsylvania. After a few years in private practice in West Grove, Pennsylvania in 1961 he entered into general practice with Wade, Cogar and Marlow in San Jose, CA an association he maintained for 40 years. John loved delivering babies, taking care of children and listening to and caring for the elderly.

John was a believer in the value of education and served as a trustee at San Jose Junior College for 13 years and later served on the board of trustees and was president of the board at Evergreen Community College. Toward the end of his medical career he became an administrator for Alexian Brothers Hospital Where he developed the Quality Assurance program.

John played handball, basketball and baseball in high school and in college. After college he developed a love for the game of golf and tennis. John met his wife Peggy in San Jose and they married in Sherman, Texas in 1987, Peggy's former home. When he retired from his medical practice, he and Peggy maintained homes in both San Jose, CA and Sherman, TX where they later became residents in 2006. He made many friends in his new community and served for 12 years on the Ethics Committee at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital- WNJ. He was also a great fan of the Sherman High School football team, Grayson County baseball and all Austin College events. He was diehard fan of all sporting events.

John's life was anchored by his Christian Faith. He attended, worked and played basketball at his neighborhood church as a child, and as an adult regularly attended services, taught Sunday school, sang in the choir and worked in the nursery. In San Jose he attended South Hills Community Church. His church home in Sherman was Fusion Bible Church.

John is survived by his wife Peggy Marlow, daughter Kristin Marlow Quintin and husband Roger Quintin, daughter Kim Soper Smith and husband Bill Smith, daughter Shawna Soper Maine and husband Russell Maine, along with ten grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

Memorial service will be held at Fusion Bible Church (formally Sherman Bible Church) at 11:30AM Monday August 4, 2014, with reception to follow. Dennis Henderson, Tim Harkins, and Jeremy Knight will officiate. A private family burial will take place at West Hill Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Waldo Funeral Home in Sherman.
