Bobby Wayne Smith SR., age 67, of Van Alstyne, TX passed away on Sunday, October 12, 2014 at Kindred Hospital in Dallas, TX.

He was born in Sherman, TX on December 19, 1946 the son of Billie Wayne Smith and Mary Frances Montgomery Martin. Bobby enlisted in the United States Navy and served in the Vietnam War. He married Melba Cortez on September 15, 1973 in Grand Prairie, TX. Bobby was a kind loving man who never met a stranger. He was an honest man that carried a strong work ethic and would rather give than receive. Bobby loved his family with all that he was and he will be greatly missed.

He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Melba C. Smith of Van Alstyne, TX, daughter, Dyann Cartwright and husband Louis of Bells, TX, daughter, Laura Smith-Otwell and Kevin Ashworth of Celina, TX, daughter, Lydia Fletcher and husband Jody Fletcher of Van Alstyne, TX, son, Bobby Smith JR. and wife Allison of Sherman, TX, and God daughter, Miriam Fox Pendon and husband Joe of San Antonio, TX, eight grandchildren, Candi Standridge, Tera Standridge, Scotty Standridge, Sierra Otwell, Joey Fletcher, Cody Smith, Collin Otwell and Tyler Smith. Bobby is also survived by two great grandchildren, one brother, Jim Martin and wife Susan of Anna, TX, one sister, Lynda Jane Rollins and husband Randy of Anna, TX and his step father, Lonnie Martin of Anna, TX, and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Gerald Martin and his step mother, Lorene Smith.

The family will hold a memorial service at First Melissa Baptist Church 2101 East Melissa Road, Melissa, TX. on Saturday October 18, 2014 at 11:00 AM.

Arrangements are under the direction of Waldo Funeral Home in Sherman, TX.
