Funeral services for William Marshall Garland, age 50, of Gainesville, TX will be held at 10:00 AM Friday, October 17, 2014 at the Waldo Funeral Home Chapel in Sherman, TX. Burial will follow at the Tioga Cemetery in Tioga, TX. Arrangements are under the direction of Waldo Funeral Home in Sherman, TX.
He passed away on Tuesday, October 14, 2014 at his residence in Gainesville, TX.
Marshall was born February 8, 1964 the son of Joseph Earl Garland and Beatrice Lucille Hampton Garland. He was the youngest of nine children. Marshall was of the Cherokee Tribe. His Cherokee name "Rain in the Face" was given to him by his father when he was a baby. As a child our father taught him to speak Cherokee. This was after our Dad became disabled and was at home with him. He was a lefty and was a spoiled rotten one. Ride on our brother. Marshall attended school at Tioga, Gunter and Howe. He loved his family very much. His children meant the world to him, but his grandchildren ruled the world.
Marshall never met a stranger. He made many friends through the years. He loved fishing, camping, cooking, playing his guitar and spending time with his family. Most of all he loved his Lord and Savior and he wasn't shy to tell anyone about Jesus.
He is survived by his son, James Garland and wife Shannon of Denison, TX, daughter, Amber Garland of Sherman, TX, daughter, Amanda Garland of Sherman, TX, son, Colton Gann of McKinney, TX, son, Christopher Judd, nine grandchildren, Mason, Nathan, Cameron and Lexi Pierce, Bentley and Trinity Proctor and Marie and Anna Judd, mother of his children, Latrisha Kay Judd Cogburn of Denison, TX, sisters, Linda Nelson of Sherman, TX, Ruby Usrey of Celina, TX, Pauline McIntyre and husband Mark of Gunter, TX, Rebecca Garland Bell and husband Jerry of Greenville, TX and brother, Chipper Dale Garland and wife Darlene of Denison, TX. Marshall is also survived by his brother in law, J.W. Cooper, brother in law, Mike Kirk, numerous nieces and nephews and his best friends, Mike Kitts and Linda Worten.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters, Peggy Cooper and Beatrice Kirk, brothers, James and Leroy Garland, brother in law, Ed Nelson, brother in law, Joe Usrey , sister in law, Serita Garland and two nephews.
Family night will be on Thursday, October 16th from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Waldo Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be Jerry Bell, James (Jimbo) Garland, Johnny Seagraves, Randy Kirk, Bryan Burns and D.J. Plyles. Honorary Pallbearers will be Andre Kitts and Daniel Pyles.
