Mary Bird McCoy was born on October 8, 1909, in Pike, Texas to Julius
Frazier and Mattie Bird. She married J. P. (Buster) McCoy in Sherman on
December 23, 1939. Mary received her B.A. Degree from East Texas State
University in 1938. She retired from teaching at Howe ISD in 1969.
Mary joined Key Memorial United Methodist Church in 1943 and was a member
of Key Bible Class. She was also a member of the Carpenter's Chapter of
Order of Eastern Star. She moved to Bedford, Texas in 2003.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents, husband, J.P. (Buster) McCoy,
her brothers, Julius Bird, Eugene Bird and twin brothers, Clyde and Claude
Bird, sisters, Jessie Andrews, Martha Atkinson and twin sisters, Reva Smith
and Reba Barham and son in law, Larry Eldridge.
Mary's survivors include her daughter, Margaret Eldridge, of Bedford, TX;
two grandchildren, Mary Eldridge Stovall and her husband Drew, of Lufkin;
Creighton Eldridge and his wife, Andie, of Cambridge, MA; four great
grandchildren, Jessica and Britton Stovall of Lufkin; Liam and Celia
Eldridge of Cambridge; one sister, Mattie Peterson, of San Juan Capistrano,
CA; and many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, May 16th, from 2:30 PM to 3:00
PM prior to the service. Funeral services will begin at 3:00 PM at the
Waldo Funeral Home Chapel.
