Funeral services for Mavis Magdalene Broomfield, age 81, of Sherman, TX will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, August 8, 2015 at the Waldo Funeral Home Chapel. Louella K. Williams will officiate and services will be under the direction of Waldo Funeral Home.
She passed away on August 5, 2015 at her home in Sherman, TX, surrounded by her family.
Mavis Magdalene Allen was born on June 27, 1934 in Lufkin, TX. She married James A. Broomfield on February 22, 1952 in Lufkin, TX. Mavis started working as a dental assistant before continuing her education. She then began teaching students at Grayson County College in the dental assistant program. In 1999, she retired as the coordinator after 27 years. Mavis loved cooking, traveling and singing.
She is survived by her husband, James A. Broomfield of Sherman, TX, one daughter, Mavis Morrow and husband Gary of Murphy, TX, two sons, Michael Broomfield and David Broomfield and wife Minnie Martinez both of Schertz, TX, six grandchildren, Sarah Morrow, Ryan Morrow, Wesley Broomfield, Misty Capps, Joshua Broomfield and Katherine Broomfield. Mavis is also survived by six great grandchildren and two brothers, Leonard Allen and Jimmy Allen.
She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Dolly Weir.
The family will receive friends on Friday, August 7th from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Waldo Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to Home Hospice of Grayson County at 505 W. Center Street in Sherman, TX 75090 or to the Mavis Broomfield Scholarship Program at Grayson County College at 6101 Grayson Drive in Denison, TX 75020.
