Oscar Lee Wetzel was born December 28, 1918, son of John Wiley Wetzel and Margaret Elizabeth (Palmer) Wetzel and passed from this life on Saturday, December 5, 2015 in Denison, Texas.
Oscar attended school in the Cedar Community and was a graduate of Tom Bean High School in 1936. Oscar married Mary Elizabeth Hash on December 24, 1946. They were married 60 years until her death in April 2007.
Oscar was also preceded in death by his parents, and a grandson, Wesley Littrell in May 2010.
He is survived by their 6 children: Joe and wife Pat of Garland; Lynne and husband Mike of Tom Bean; Marc and wife Debbie of Tom Bean; Bruce and wife Bobby of Tom Bean; Sherri and husband Bruce of Shillong, India; Mary Anne and husband Steve of Tom Bean; 16 Grandchildren

Hannah Wetzel, Ben Wetzel, Jack Littrell, Madilyn Littrell, Lillian Littrell, Kylie Wetzel, Marleigh Wetzel, Haley Wetzel, Reed Wetzel,
Braxton Book, and Bellamy Book; and his friend and care-taker, Marianne Daniels.
Farming was his passion! He was a diligent steward of the land. He enjoyed the rising and the setting of the sun each day and watching it from his home and family farm in the Cedar Community. He was a faithful member of the Methodist Church; Cedar United Methodist Church and later First United Methodist Church of Tom Bean. Oscar was cherished by his church family and friends. His steadfast faith and trust in the Lord were an encouragement to all who met him. Even in his last hours on this earth, Oscar was clapping his hands and singing hymns of praise to his Lord and Savior.
Funeral services to celebrate Oscar's life will be held at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, December 8th, at the First United Methodist Church in Tom Bean with Revs. Jerry Colgrove and Donny Haywood serving as officiants. Interment will follow at Cedar Cemetery in the Cedar community with grandsons, Joseph Wetzel, Brad Littrell, Marcus Wetzel, Chad Wetzel, Brian Burk, Nick Book, Marshall Wetzel, Paul Wetzel, Bryce Burk and Hunter Book serving as pallbearers.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 PM on Monday, Dec. 7th, at Waldo Funeral Home.
