Obituary

Funeral services for retired USAF Staff Sergeant Donald Wortman, will be held at 10:00 AM on Monday, Jan. 18th, at Waldo Funeral Home chapel with Revs. Jeremy Myers and Mark Berrier serving as officiants. Mr. Wortman will be laid to rest at Cedarlawn Memorial Park with members of the Knights of Columbus, Frank Conti, Al Vrla, Ted Miller, Mike Gelerman, Frank Garcia and Steve Michaels serving as pallbearers. Rev. Randy Reddell will be the officiant at the committal services.

Full military honors by the Sheppard Air Force Base Honor Guard will take place at the cemetery.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, Jan. 17th, from 6-8 PM at Waldo Funeral Home.

Donald was born December 13, 1926 in Leavenworth, Kansas to John and Agnes (Schneider) Wortman and passed from this life on January 14, 2016 in Bonham, Texas at the age of 89. While in high school, Donald played with the Drum and Bugle Corp. He married the love of his life, Nola Mae Gilley, on April 22, 1948 in Sherman. She precedes in him death on March 12, 2015.

Donald served our country in the United States Air Force from 1945 to 1966. He was a veteran of WWII, Korea and Vietnam wars. Donald retired as Staff Sergeant who loved his country and fought for the freedom we have as citizens. After his retirement, he earned his associates degree in Business Administration and a lifetime at the University of Hard Knocks. Donald worked for Kaiser Aluminum as a machinist for ten years. Donald enjoyed yard work, listening to music, and fixing things with his hands. He was lifetime member with the Knights of Columbus.

Donald was also preceded in death by his parents; siblings, John L. Wortman Jr. and Lillian Wortman Meek, brothers and sisters in law, Euna Fay Carey, Gene Carey, Vernon Gilley, Cecil Gilley and Oleta Gilley.

He is survived by his son, John Wortman and his wife, Reba of Sherman; sister-in-law, Betty Gilley of Josephine, TX; nieces, Mary Kay Harris of Tahlequah, OK, Carole Hernandez of Ozark, MO, and Shirley Wortman of Aspen, CO, and many other nieces and nephews.
