James was born March 9, 1928 in Gainesville to the late Granville Johnson and Lizzie McCloskey. And he was born again June 9, 2017 when he accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior.
James was proud to serve his country in both the Army Air Corp and Navy. James worked as a long haul truck driver most of his life, having driven well over 3 million accident free miles. For a brief period, he worked as a commercial fisherman in Washougal, WA. James enjoyed hunting, watching a good Western and the Texas Ranges. He also enjoyed matching wits against many game show contestants. But most of all he loved his family. Having passed on his love of the ocean to his son Jerry, he cherished the time the two of them spent together sailing. His family will miss him, the twinkle in his eye, his sense of humor and the love he so freely gave.
