John D. Davis - Howe, Texas
John Dunagan Davis age 84, of Howe, Texas passed away at home surrounded by his family on Thursday, June 18, 2020.
He was born on December 29, 1935 in Wellsville, Kansas the son of John Franklin Davis and Eva Lillian Dunagan Davis. John D. was raised in Paris, Texas. He met and later married the love of his life Gaitha Dockray on January 14, 1961 and they were just months away from 60 years of marriage. John D. and Gaitha lived in Paris for many years as he built a career working as a self-taught Machinist for Campbell Soup Company. He retired after 27 ½ years with them. They later began working at the Lakeview Baptist Assembly Youth Camp for 18 summers. John D. and Gaitha then moved to Dorchester and later to Howe.
He is survived by his loving wife, Gaitha Davis of the home, son, Glenn Davis and wife Janice of White Oak, Texas, daughter, Shelley Carter and husband Todd of Van Alstyne, Texas, six grandchildren, Breanna Davis, Corey Davis and wife Alyssa, Rachel Vance and husband Jim, Tye Carter and wife Jenny, Emerald Walker and husband Thomas and Eden Watson and husband J.C., six great grandchildren, Camden Carter, Hayden Walker, Tate Brummell, Jase Walker, Judd Watson, Wirth Watson and expecting the first great granddaugter in July. John D. is also survived by his cousin, Kathy Corley, numerous friends and two voluntarily adopted children, Katie Williams and Derek Smith.
John D. was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Betty Ann Davis, brother, Thomas William "Buddy" Davis.
Memorial services will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, June 20, 2020 at the Community Bible Fellowship Church in Howe.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made in John D's name to Lakeview Baptist Assembly, P.O. Box 130 Lone Star, Texas 75668.
Arrangements are under the direction of Waldo Funeral Home in Sherman.
