Marvin Cate

Van Alstyne- Funeral services for Marvin Ray Cate will be held at 10:00 AM Thursday, May 3 at the First Baptist Church in Howe. Eric Bayer will officiate. Burial with military honors will follow at Hall Cemetery. Rodney Cooper, Robert Cate, Collin Lankford, Caleb Lankford, Tyler Hill, and Cameron Lankford  will serve as pallbearers.  Mr. Cate, 60, passed away unexpectedly Thursday, April 26 in Van Alstyne.

Marvin was born October 20, 1957 in Grapevine, Texas to the late RL and Martha (Cloninger) Cate. He graduated from Howe High School in 1976 and joined the US Navy.  After a 22-year career in the Navy, Marvin retired in 1998 as Senior Chief.  On November 22, 1985 he and Sherry Niday were married in Pasadena, Texas. Marvin was a lifelong fan of the Dallas Cowboys.  He enjoyed cooking, especially smoking briskets for family gatherings.  He also enjoyed camping, boating, and fishing.  He was of the Christian Faith.

Mr. Cate loved his family and was extremely proud of his sons. He is survived by his wife Sherry of Van Alstyne; four sons, Michael Hill and wife Michelle of Howe, Rodney Cooper and Maggie Yuen of Pottsboro, Michael Cate of Houston, and Robert Cate and wife Binta of Sherman; six grandchildren, Collin Lankford, Caleb Lankford, Tyler Hill, Cameron Lankford, Makenna Cooper, and Naomi Cate; sister, Kathie Fenton and husband Joseph of Muenster; and numerous nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents, and one sister, Martha Jean Cate.
