Walter K. "Buddy" Fairbrother

Sherman – Walter Kenneth Fairbrother, 91, of Sherman, Texas went to be with The Lord on Thursday, May 17, 2018.

A memorial service will be held at Waldo Funeral Home on Tuesday, May 22 nd at 11 AM. Dr. Mike Lawson of the First Baptist Church of Sherman will officiate.  At 10 AM the family will receive friends for an hour prior to the service.

Walter was born on March 21, 1927 in New York Mills, New York, the son of Walter Ernest and Agnes Mary Fairbrother.  Walter graduated from Oriskany Falls High School in 1944.  He married Sally Jean Karlman on July 29, 1950.  They enjoyed a blessed marriage together for almost 68 years.

Walter was employed as an Engineering Aide with the State of New York, followed by service with the Army Air Corps at the air depot in Rome, NY.  He was a radar technician for the  Air Force at Griffiss AFB, NY, and he served as a contract administrator at Tinker AFB, OK, and McClellan AFB, CA.  Walter worked for the Department of Defense as a contract manager in OKC, OK, Dallas, TX and Phoenix, AZ.  His last assignment was at the Defense Procurement Office at Texas Instruments and he retired from Civil Service  in January 1986 after 40 years of service.
Walter was a Navy Veteran and served aboard a fleet oiler, the USS Caloosahatchee, from 1945-46.  He was a member of the Masonic Alliance Lodge 1097, for over 60 years and a member of First Baptist Church in Sherman, Texas.

Walter enjoyed fishing, playing golf and hunting.  He adored his grandchildren and spent many moments engaged in fun activities and rewarding events.  Walter also loved to travel and explore during many adventures with his wife and family.

Walter is survived by his wife, Sally; daughter, Patricia and her husband Kevin of Tulsa, OK; son, Alan and his wife Jean of OKC, OK; son, Kevin and his wife Glenda of Pottsboro, TX; sister, Mary Slocum of Oriskany Falls, NY; grandsons, Patrick Kenneth Hagar, Caleb Fairbrother and wife Lacey, Luke Fairbrother and his wife Tiffany; granddaughters, Chelsea Hagar, Jessica and husband Jay Leird, Sarah and husband Alex Denton; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Walter was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Agnes Fairbrother and an infant son, Kenneth Fairbrother.
In lieu of flowers, the family encourages memorial contributions be made to the Preserving the Legacy Fund at First Baptist Church of Sherman, 400 S. Travis St., Sherman, TX 75090.
