David Bedgood

Owner and President

David is a proud graduate of the Dallas Institute of Mortuary Science (1965) and East Texas State University (1967). He moved to the Sherman area in 1968 and went to work at Waldo Funeral Home in 1971. Mr. Bedgood bought the funeral home from Robert Waldo in 1980. He has been married to his wife, Donna for 50 years and is a longtime member of the First Baptist Church of Sherman. David has been actively involved in many social and civic organizations in Sherman. In his free time, he enjoys farming and ranching and watching his grandsons play sports.

Joel Bedgood

Vice President

Joel Bedgood serves as Vice President of Waldo Funeral Home, Sherman’s leading family-owned and operated funeral home since 1937. A 1994 graduate of Baylor University, Joel holds a Business Administration degree as well as being a graduate of Mortuary School, San Antonio, in 1996. After being raised in Sherman, Joel joined the family business in 1997 and stays actively involved in the Grayson County community. Joel and his wife Kerry, have two sons, David and Ethan. Joel’s family attends Legacy Bible Church and they are very supportive Bearcat fans.

Billy Keene

Funeral Director

Billy Keene serves as a funeral director at Waldo Funeral Home. He is a 1993 graduate of Dallas Institute of Funeral Service. He is a lifelong resident of Sherman. Billy is the proud father of 2 adult daughters and grandfather ("Goby") to four active grandchildren.

Derek Smith

Funeral Director

Derek Smith serves as a Funeral Director at Waldo Funeral Home. He is a 1996 graduate of Dallas Institute of Funeral Service. Derek started working in Oklahoma before moving to North Texas in 2003. He began his longtime career with Waldo Funeral Home in 2004. Derek lives in Grayson County with his wife Stephanie and their two children.

James E. Smith

Funeral Director

James is a native Denisonian and began working with funeral homes in Denison and Sherman at the age of 13. He is a graduate of Terrell High School in Denison and Commonwealth College of Mortuary Science in Houston. He is a licensed Funeral Director and Embalmer in both Texas and Oklahoma. He has worked for: McDonald Funeral Home in Denison; Grayson Funeral Home in Sherman; Fairchild-Purnell Mortuary in Houston; Cedar Crest Funeral Home in Dallas; is the past owner of Smith Memorial Chapel in Denison; and Boyd & Smith Mortuary in Sherman. After the liquidation of his mortuaries, James served many funeral homes in North Texas and Southern Oklahoma as a contract mortician prior to joining Waldo Funeral Home in 2016, where he continues to help and serve families in our community.

James married Barbara Kinney-Smith June 2, 1964. They are the proud parents of Kevin, LeQuita and Tiffany and their seven grandchildren. He belongs to Pi Sigma Eta Mortuary Fraternity and was past president of IFDA of Texas.

James is proud of serving on the first Board of Directors that established the Texoma Regional Blood Bank, serving Cooke, Grayson, and Fannin Counties, which is still an active and integral part of medical services in our community to this day.

Morgan Hartnett

Funeral Director

Morgan Hartnett joined the Waldo staff in the summer of 2023.

She had previously worked for Wise Funeral Home in Bonham and is a 2023 graduate of Dallas Institute.

Morgan grew up in Dodd City and is a graduate of Dodd City High School.

She has two beautiful daughters who keep her very busy in her off time.

Morgan looks forward to serving the families of Grayson County.

Keri Steele

Office Manager & Pre-arranged Funeral Consultant

Keri Steele is Office Manager for Waldo Funeral Home and a Pre-arranged Funeral Consultant. Keri is a graduate of the University of Arkansas with a Bachelor of Arts degree. She was born and raised in Sherman and is married to Willie. Keri and Willie enjoy being involved in the Grayson County Community and both serve on several local boards. They are active members of Post Oak Fellowship and enjoy volunteering with the children's ministry among other activities at their church. They have two grown children, Allyn and Blake.

Travis Boren

Funeral Director Assistant & Media production

Travis is a key part of the Waldo Funeral Home support staff and specializes in family service. Travis is a true people pleaser and no tasks are above or beyond Travis. He specializes in the audio/video coordination and technical support of our funeral services as well as maintaining facilities, vehicles, and crematory operations. He has been with Waldo Funeral Home since 2008. He and his wife Maria have six children.

Chaz Goodwin

Funeral Director Assistant

Chaz Goodwin serves as a funeral director assistant. He has lived in the Sherman/Denison area for over 24 years. He and his wife Erika have three daughters, Avereigh, Harper and Whitley. They are members of The Refuge Church in Denison. Chaz enjoys being involved in his daughter's activities and he is an avid sports fan. Chaz is currently attending Dallas Institute of Funeral Service pursuing his license in mortuary science.

Larry Blevis

Support Staff

Larry Blevins is a Funeral Director’s Assistant for Waldo Funeral Home. He runs and operates our onsite crematory. Larry and his wife Marianne are both lifelong Sherman residents and have two children and three grandchildren. They have been long time members of Forest Avenue Baptist Church.

Ken Mullins

Support Staff

Ken Mullins , is part of our support staff at Waldo Funeral Home. He handles our family visitations and is our weekend back up. Ken was raised in Lubbock area and graduated from Texas Tech. He then had a 35 year career with Conoco. Ken has been married to his wife Delonia for 47 years. He has two children and three grandchildren. Ken has lived in Grayson County 31 years and is an active member of the Western Height Church of Christ.

Laurie Hash

Support Staff

Laurie is originally from Sherman, Texas, and a graduate of Tom Bean High School. She has spent the past 33 years in nursing home administration, a career that has deepened her passion for serving others during difficult times. She has been married to her husband, Bob Hash, for 34 years, and together they have three children and six grandchildren. She has lived in Grayson County for 64 years and is an active member of Luella First Baptist Church where she plays piano and sings with the praise team.
